Black Kavos is located on the Sea of Crete (part of Mediterranean Sea) and it is in the 242th place out of 478 beaches in the Crete region 54.9 km away from its center, the city of Kastelli. It is one of the beaches of Itanou settlement, just 1.2 km from its center. The beach is located in a natural place with very picturesque views, among the mountains, surrounded by the cliffs. This beach is not a well-known place, so it is well suited for a relaxing leisure.

It is a small several bays coastline with crystal turquoise water and light pebble, so it is recommended to wear special shoes. The sharpness of entering the water is quite normal. This beach is suitable for different categories of people, lonely travellers, relaxation getaway lovers etc. It is almost deserted place even during the high season. Please note that the area nearby is possible for wild camping.

Getting to the beach is relatively straightforward, though the last 500m can be a bit tricky due to the terrain. The beach is made up of coarse pebbles and the water is crystal clear. It's usually quite quiet, especially after August.

Two people had the wrong impression of this beach; they must have been thinking of another beach in the vicinity. From a distance, it looks quite beautiful, but when you get closer, it's a different story. There's plastic garbage and construction waste on the beach, and even plastic in the sea. Instead of sand, there are pebbles. I wish I had taken pictures of it!
