Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 151 beaches in the state.

To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in Michigan.

Attraction and Infrastructure

As for the main features of the beaches of Michigan, they are as follows:

  • The state's beaches are mainly wide, long and have a high level of cleanliness. The most common surface is sand of bright color.
  • Usually, entry into the water is gentle, which is very good for kids. There are 124 such beaches.
  • The average distance from the road to beach in Michigan is less than 500 meters. 146 beaches are relatively easy to access, 5 beaches are difficult to access, which in most cases means that you have to walk a quite long distance.

Wild beaches with no infrastructure dominate the coastline of Michigan however, even here you can find a beach with a standard set of accessories: sun beds, umbrellas, restaurants, showers and toilets.

Latest reviews on Michigan's beaches

Michigan Beach Park

We had a fantastic day at Michigan Beach Park with our family. The beach was well-maintained, there was ample parking, and the restrooms were conveniently placed. Just a small note, there are quite a few rocks near the water's edge, so if you have sensitive feet, it might be a good idea to bring water shoes. However, once you get past the initial rocky area, the sand on the beach and lake bottom is perfect. Apart from that, we highly recommend paying a visit!

Elberta Beach (Ebeach)

This review might come across as a bit unfair, but I want to be honest and explain my thoughts. The beach is actually quite nice and has its advantages. It's not as crowded, so if you're not a fan of crowds, you might prefer it here. The beach stretches out for a long distance, allowing plenty of space to spread out. The view of Lake Michigan is always beautiful. Additionally, dogs are allowed on the beach. Now, let's talk about the negatives. It takes about 3 minutes to walk from the parking lot to the beach, which may not be a big deal, but the path is uneven. The drive down to the beach is on a crazy road with a steep incline and twists. While the view is pretty, it's a bit underwhelming compared to other nearby beaches. Overall, I would rate this beach as a 3-star experience. This is mainly because there are other beaches in the area that are fantastic and very close by, such as Frankfort Beach and Point Betsie Lighthouse Beach. If those beaches were further away, maybe around 30 minutes instead of 8 and 20, I would probably give this beach a 4-star rating. But if you prefer this beach, more power to you.

Haserot Beach
10 Zo Mars

This beach is a great find, tucked away from the usual crowds and perfect for bringing your furry friend along! The sandy beach is lovely, the water is peaceful, and there are no rocks to worry about. Additionally, there is a picnic area, playground, and restroom facilities available.

Woodstar beach
10 Sara Anderson

This campground is definitely worth a visit. The beach is the highlight and can be easily reached on foot from any of the campsites. The hosts are extremely friendly and always ready to assist with any small request. We are eagerly looking forward to returning next summer.

Fox Beach
10 Renata Martinez

We made a pit stop at this beach to take a break and grab some dinner while on a road trip. I was genuinely impressed by how well-maintained and tidy it was! This place has such a serene and tranquil atmosphere, making it a delightful spot to unwind.

Lions Park Beach
10 Cameron Brooks

This is a fantastic place to bring your children for a fun-filled day at the beach! The parking fee is $7 per day, and there is an amazing playground located right on the beach. Additionally, there are multiple swing areas available where you can relax and enjoy the breathtaking view of the water.

Please note that lifeguards supervise 14 beaches in the state, but you should rely on more than just them, remember the elementary rules, as lifeguards are not on duty around the clock, even on equipped beaches!

Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.
