Calm, measured rest and the sound of waves are perhaps the most common associations that arise with the word "beach". This is not surprising, as relaxation is exactly what many beach travelers are looking for. If you associate your vacation primarily with such activity, choose one of the 13 beaches in the region.

To make your choice easier, we have prepared a list of the best beaches for relaxation in Bocas del Toro.

Attraction and Infrastructure

As for the main features of the beaches of Bocas del Toro, they are as follows:

  • The region's beaches are mainly narrow, long and have a high level of cleanliness. The most common surface is sand of bright color.
  • Usually, entry into the water is moderately gentle, such beaches are 10.
  • An important clarification, 3 beaches in the region have a long intertidal zone, which means that during low tide hours you may have to travel a considerable distance. This is also something to consider if you don't want to suddenly be in the water at high tide.
  • The average distance from the road to beach in Bocas del Toro is less than 500 meters. 7 beaches are relatively easy to access, 3 beaches are difficult to access, which in most cases means that you have to walk a quite long distance, and 3 beaches are only accessible from the water. The latter include both island beaches and beaches with no land routes due to the natural borders.

Wild beaches with no infrastructure dominate the coastline of Bocas del Toro however, even here you can find a beach with a standard set of accessories: sun beds, umbrellas, restaurants, showers and toilets.

Salt Creek Beach

We had an amazing time at Casa Cayuco! The staff was incredibly welcoming, attentive, and lovely. From the moment we arrived, we felt right at home and they made it so easy for us to relax and enjoy our vacation. Alondra, the manager, was always there to help us with organizing our diving trips and anything else we needed. Every morning, she would introduce us to the exciting adventures planned for the day. José, the captain and tour guide, made our snorkeling and exploration experiences unforgettable. He also taught us so much about the wonders of the Panamanian Caribbean Sea. In addition to the wonderful Casa Cayuco family, the hotel itself is simply beautiful. The decor is simple yet chic, the beds are incredibly comfortable, and the food, which we were spoiled with four times a day, is fresh and delicious. Thank you, Casa Cayuco, for providing us with such a memorable stay. We loved every moment and hope to return someday!

Tesoro Escondido Beach

This place is absolutely incredible to stay at, with lush trees, playful howling monkeys, and the delightful toucan Rio all around. The atmosphere is so laid-back, and you have your very own private beach to enjoy every single day. The breakfast options are fantastic, especially the delicious smoothies. And the best part is that dinner is different every day, but always mouthwatering. Without a doubt, this is the perfect place to stay when you're on the island.

Bluff Beach

This beach may not be ideal for swimming, but it offers the perfect conditions for body surfing. After Zapatilla beach, it quickly became my top pick in Panama. However, reaching this secluded paradise is not without its challenges, as public transportation is infrequent. You'll need to either rent a bicycle or hail a taxi, but don't forget to negotiate the fare.

Escondida Beach

This stunning beach is a natural wonder, with its wild and untamed beauty that is sure to take your breath away. Although the waves can be quite rough, it is still a sight to behold and a perfect place for a leisurely stroll. It is without a doubt the most picturesque beach we have come across in Bocas del Toro so far. This is just the start of Bluff Beach, and we didn't venture further down, but we're certain that it's just as magnificent. The beach is immaculately clean, and the crystal-clear waters are a testament to its untouched beauty.

Red Frog Beach

To secure a cabana or chairs, it is advisable to arrive early as they are rented through the restaurant. The restaurant's food and drinks are satisfactory, but if you wish to avoid waiting, it is recommended to bring your own snacks and meals. The beach is magnificent, with a vast expanse and thrilling waves that are enjoyable, yet there is no perilous undertow present.

Estrella Beach

The Playa Estrella beach is not just a spot to observe starfish, as it offers a variety of restaurants along its shore. However, the quality of the food is decent, but the restrooms are not up to par, and the wait time for food can be quite lengthy. Nevertheless, these issues are related to the restaurants and not the beach itself. If you prefer a more secluded area, you can arrange to go snorkeling for starfish elsewhere on the beach.

Finding hotels in relative proximity to the beaches is usually fine. Many beaches have enough nearby accommodation, which gives good opportunities to choose the right place to stay.

The hottest month of the region is March - air temperature during this time warms up to 28.3°C and water up to 19.8°C. The coldest month is October - air temperature drops to 22°C and water to 17.7°C.
