Everything about this place was incredible, except for the location of the site and the unpleasant water. Aside from that, we had a fantastic time.
The beach is always a beautiful place with a gentle breeze by the water and a lovely sandy beach.
I absolutely love everything about Fort Desoto. The BBQ facilities in the shelters are incredibly well-designed, complete with movable grills. The grills themselves are made of heavy-duty bar stock, which means that placing a secondary grill or covering it with aluminum foil creates an even better cooking surface. The placement of trash receptacles is very convenient, and the tables are always well-maintained. Overall, it provides a fantastic picnic experience.
We went to the beach in early February and it wasn't crowded at all. The parking fee is $5, which you can pay at the machines, and it allows you to park anywhere in the park until 9:00 pm. The park has fantastic bike paths that cover the entire area, and the views are absolutely stunning!
This beach isn't as crowded, but there are several drawbacks. There are plenty of seaweeds, and the sand isn't as fine as other beaches. Unfortunately, the kids ended up with cuts while playing on the beach. During the summer, the problem with bugs and gnats is significant, so be prepared with bug spray and other measures. I wouldn't recommend it. There are better beaches in the Tampa Bay area.
