Walking along Fort Tilden Beach was absolutely fantastic! The beach offers both a fishing area and an optional clothing section. Although I was eager to locate the impressive fort depicted in the pictures, I was unsure of its exact whereabouts or how to reach it. All I managed to catch a glimpse of was the back of a metallic structure. Nonetheless, it was definitely worth the visit.
During the summer in the city, people have easy access to the nearest beach for pure relaxation and enjoyment. However, it is important to note that swimming in the surf is not considered safe, so it is necessary to take precautionary measures to ensure safety. There is a drop-off point along the waterline that creates an undertow, making the surf powerful enough to pull anyone into the tidal basin with the outgoing current or cross-current tow. Every year, this beach becomes a haven for people of all ages to have fun, play in the sand, sunbathe, and maybe swim. The timing is crucial for safe swimming, especially when the tide is at its lowest point, as there is a submerged sandbar around 25-30 meters offshore. Many people enjoy swimming out to it when it's low enough, but at other times, it remains hidden beneath the water. As for fishing, it is always enjoyable here, as long as the weather cooperates with a clear windshield, sunny skies, slow-moving clouds, and occasional rain. As the weather cools down with the change of seasons, it gets cooler earlier. However, throughout the year, there are many more miles of sandy beaches to explore along Long Island, not just around Breezy Point. The only challenge is transportation to and from different parts of the beaches, but generally, it is always really nice and relaxing. Truly.
This beach is absolutely stunning, conveniently located near everything yet secluded from the hustle and bustle. Personally, it's just a quick bus ride away for me. Although it requires a bit of a walk from the bus stop, the effort is definitely worth it. It's important to bring all the necessary items since there are no concessions available (but you can always walk to Riis if needed). The water can get quite rough, and it's essential to be aware of your swimming abilities as there are no lifeguards on duty. Additionally, it's worth noting that some beachgoers choose to go clothing-optional. As depicted in the picture, even on a scorching summer day like today right outside of NYC, this beach remains incredibly serene - just you and nature.
This beach is absolutely incredible. It gives you a true sense of being in nature and is much calmer compared to other beaches in the city. Although it's labeled as a clothing optional section, that's not entirely accurate. The police patrol the area, especially on weekends, and you can actually receive a hefty fine of $180. It would be great if we could come together and work towards making this a legally recognized clothing optional beach within the city.
Fort Tilden is a stunning beach that isn't overly crowded. It offers the option to go clothing-optional without any judgment or body shaming. People here are simply having a great time, maintaining social distancing within their groups, and indulging in their preferred activities. The waves are perfect for body surfing, and if you need food or restroom facilities, Jacob Riis is just a short 15-minute walk away. It serves as the ideal remedy for the current anxieties of life. Please note that the parking lot is currently closed, so you'll need to walk from the Riis parking lot through the entrance with the Ben and Jerry's.
