Rockaway Beach is an amazing public beach that is perfect for relaxing and unwinding during the scorching summer days. It's incredibly convenient to reach from the City, whether you choose to take the ferry from Wall St. Pier 11 to Rockaway or hop on the subway (S line). The lifeguards at this beach are highly skilled and always ready to respond to any emergencies, ensuring everyone's safety. Moreover, the waves here are fantastic! Don't forget to bring water, flipflops, and your favorite bathing suit. I really regret not coming here more frequently!
The beach offers an excellent play area for kids and has a sufficient number of lifeguards. On a weekday afternoon, there were only a handful of individuals present. Some mothers were seen with their children in the play area, while a few others were on the beach or cycling/jogging along the promenade. It almost appeared as if there were more lifeguards than actual beachgoers.
The beach on B116 was closed due to ongoing construction, so I had to stroll towards 108 St.
The beach was too windy for a full day, but my kids managed to have a good time with 45 minutes of sun, sand, and a little bit of splashing in the sea.
The beach is absolutely stunning! It's conveniently located near Memorial Park, and I was truly amazed when we finally arrived. We visited on a Saturday and surprisingly, the beach wasn't overcrowded. It was pleasantly clean, including the boardwalk and the restroom facilities. However, it was always bustling with activity! It's not like before the COVID-19 pandemic, but we still managed to have a wonderful time.
