About

Rabbit Key is located on the Gulf of Mexico (part of North Atlantic Ocean) and it is in the 244th place out of 266 beaches in the Florida region 592.5 km away from its center, the city of Tallahassee. It is one of the beaches of Chokoloskee settlement, just 7 km from its center. The beach is located in a natural place. It is partially covered by trees which give natural shade.

It is a straight coastline with crystal turquoise water and light sand & pebble cover, so you don't need special shoes. The entrance to the water is very smooth. This beach is suitable for different categories of people, lonely travellers, relaxation getaway lovers, hikers etc. It is not crowded place during the season.

Rabbit Key coast is free for all. It has no amenities, only nature. .

In addition to swimming and sunbathing, you can also take part in other activities.

Rabbit Key (Florida) region (Ten Thousand island sub-region) is located outside the Chokoloskee settlement, which may cause some difficulties for travelers who stay far from the coast. However, the remoteness from the village is not always a bad thing. Lovers of quiet rest know, the farther the beach, the fewer crowds.

The beach stretches on the sunny coast and the correct question is not how to get to Rabbit Key, but what mode of transport can be used to get to it, because this part of the coast is inaccessible by land. The beach can only be reached by water and you have to rent a boat to get there.

I camped at this beach in 1980 as part of a canoeing and camping trip with my high school. There were about 12 of us students from Beckett Academy in East Haddam, Connecticut, and four counselors - Pittman Floyd, Sue Porteos, and two others, along with the housemother, Helen, who looked after our home base in Everglades City. We spent three days studying, canoeing, camping, and fishing, followed by a day off, and then repeated the cycle for six weeks. It was a fantastic outdoor educational adventure! Any other Beckett alumni remember those days?

The beach has an open area for a fire pit, excellent fishing opportunities, and is easily accessible from Chokoloskee.

I camped here in 60s. There was a picnic table available and National Park rangers periodically checked on us.
