That place is a great spot to visit, especially during the summer months when it's packed with people. It's also easily accessible, making it an ideal place to spend a day in the sun.
I had the pleasure of visiting La Caleta in Cadiz for a day. A local informed me that it was the site of the iconic beach scene in the James Bond movie Die Another Day with Halle Berry and Pierce Brosnan. I decided to take a walk over and see it for myself. I was delighted to find the beach was free and that there were clean public restrooms.
This lovely beach has golden sand and an interesting pavilion, making it the perfect spot for a leisurely stroll to the forts on either side. Or, you can simply relax on the beach and watch the world go by.
La Caleta beach is a sight to behold with its crystal clear blue waters. It's the same beach that was used for the filming of 'Die Another Day' in 2002. It's fascinating that swimwear is not a requirement for women here, despite the presence of families with young children. Must be a European thing!
La Caleta is far from my idea of a perfect beach - it's a city beach, and not the best one at that. The sand is not that great, and the space is limited. For a better experience, I'd recommend taking a 15 minute walk to Playa Santa Maria del Mar or Playa Maria de la Victoria. The location is quite nice, with views of San Sebastian and Santa Catalina castles, and a good spot to catch a sunset. There's a beach club and beach chairs, and snacks are available. It's also shallow, making it safe for children, and there is a lifeguard. But the tide could be a bit of an issue, as it can make the beach look less than desirable when it's out. Plus, all the small fishing boats moored there make it not the best place to swim - the footing could be quite slippery and rocky. All in all, La Caleta is not my top pick.
