I wouldn't recommend coming here for a swim, but it's worth visiting to observe the locals enjoying themselves in the water and relaxing on the beach.
The beach closest to the city is a local favorite - it's public, free, and offers a great expanse of sand to relax on for a leisurely day. It's also an ideal spot to catch a glimpse of airplanes as they approach the nearby airport. Depending on the day, it can get quite busy or pleasantly uncrowded. On the day I visited, I even saw some locals enjoying the waves and surfing.
This beach is often visited by the locals and is known for its peaceful atmosphere. It is conveniently located near the city, making it the perfect spot for a quick swim.
I visited the beach on a weekday and it was peaceful with fewer people. Overall, the beach and water were quite clean. Although there was some plastic that had washed up, unfortunately, it appears to be a common occurrence everywhere.
The beach is perfect for observing the arrival and departure of airplanes as it is located close to Dumaguete Airport. It is recommended to swim in the morning to soak up some Vitamin D and enjoy a beautiful sunrise. Additionally, you can witness many fishermen returning from their early morning catch. In the afternoon, you can see more airplanes landing and taking off, as well as the sky changing colors during sunset. I even spotted a puffer fish that got caught in one of the fishermen's nets by accident. The cleanliness of the water depends on the weather conditions. The best part is that there is no entrance fee to access the beach. There are small tables and stores near the shore, although they may contribute to the trash issue along with the locals living nearby. If possible, it would be great to bring a pair of gloves and a garbage bag to help clean up the beach and contribute to the environment while getting some exercise.
