When visiting New Zealand, our friend insisted that we absolutely must go to Hot Water beach. So we did - and we loved it. We arrived around 8:30 in the morning, and the beach was already full of people (in late March). The sun was shining, people were out surfing, and it was absolutely beautiful. From the parking lot, you need to turn left when walking towards the ocean to find the place where the hot water is. We had brought a small shovel, but renting a more sizeable spade would have been beneficial. Even with little effort, you can find the pockets of hot water (sometimes too hot!). Finding the perfect mixture of the hot geothermal water with the cold ocean water is the fun of being here. We arrived 1 hour before low tide - which worked well for experiencing the hot water. We heard +/- 2 hours from low tide was best. The beach was very clear and had amenities such as toilets in the parking lot. We are really glad we came here and if we returned, would definitely spend more time.

Wow 😍 hot water next to the cold ocean water. It is really unique place 😍 with a lot of people trying to dig their own hole..... don't forget to come only at low tide and bring your own shovel if you don't want to rent one for at least ten dollars.

Amidst the golden grains of sand, a pristine beach unfolds, kissed by the gentle embrace of the sun. Nature paints a masterpiece with breathtaking vistas that stir the soul. In the dance of waves, beach ball laughter, and boat rides, memories weave a tapestry of joy. Summer's warmth envelops, a soothing balm for the spirit, though the water, a refreshing chill, invites brave souls to dance with the playful waves. A symphony of water activities unfolds, each ripple a note in the composition of leisure. Yet, amid this coastal poetry, mundane concerns surface—the usual facilities, changing rooms, and showers. A solitary lament echoes for the closure of the Grange Rd car park during the vibrant summer days. For those yearning a serene coastal haven, this beach beckons—a whispered recommendation for a tranquil escape by the sea.

If the tides line up, like they did for me, this can be the most amazing spot on the planet to watch the stars and the sunrise. The campground around the corner is a 10 minute walk so staying there is a great idea

Start of the summer season, we visited HWB around 6.30pm just before the tide turned. It was heaving!! For a quieter visit I’d recommend getting up early - all depends on tide times. The water is as described - HOT! Despite all the people it is a unique experience and the atmosphere friendly. Away from the hot water section, it is a beautiful beach in its own right. Toilet facilities excellent, paid for parking and a cafe/shop on site (not open at the time we went). You can’t come to the Coromandel and miss this beach!
