Discovering Pantai Kerachut feels like uncovering a hidden gem in a video game, where you must put in a significant amount of effort to unlock it. After a journey lasting an hour and a half (with an extra 30 minutes for taking pictures), the destination was truly worth it. Upon arriving at the red bridge of Pantai Kerachut, you will be greeted with a stunning view of the Kerachut beach on your right and the meromictic lake on your left. These two natural wonders are connected by a small river (or strait, as some call it). Since it requires a considerable amount of effort to reach this location, you can expect to have the beach and lake all to yourself.
Undoubtedly, the most exceptional beach in Penang is a hidden gem, which is not easily accessible. One can reach there either by hiking for 4 km through the Penang National Park or by taking a boat. However, I would suggest hiking over and taking a boat back. The beach boasts of white sands and blue waters, which are not crowded, providing an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. Although it can get hot, there is plenty of shade around to relax and enjoy the serene ambiance. One can spend hours here, and the beach is well-maintained. However, it is not safe for swimming due to jellyfish and rough tides, so visitors must take the necessary precautions and swim at their own risk. Lastly, make sure to visit the turtle sanctuary located at the end of the beach, which is a great initiative towards preserving marine life.
The trek to the beach may be challenging, with a total distance of 3.5km from the National Park, but the reward is undoubtedly worth it. The beach is a stunning sight to behold, and the experience is one that you won't forget anytime soon. If you're looking for a more leisurely way back to the National Park, you can take a boat for RM100 per trip. However, my friend and I opted to hike back, taking in the breathtaking scenery and enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
I opted for a boat ride to this serene beach due to time constraints. The boat ride cost me RM200, which included a stop at the Monkey Beach. The beach offers a chance to explore the turtle sanctuary, the picturesque lake (which requires good timing to fully appreciate), and the beach itself. Swimming is prohibited, hence the absence of people in the water. Despite this, the beach is a hidden gem that is definitely worth a visit.
This beach is a hidden gem, tucked away from the crowds and offering a peaceful escape. The journey to reach it is a pleasant 4+km hike from the Teluk Bahang National Park entrance, which is well worth the effort. While it is possible to take a boat directly to the beach, this would miss out on the opportunity for exploration. Instead, it is recommended to hike and arrange for a boat pickup in advance. The trail is well maintained and marked, making it suitable for intermediate hikers or those who are just starting to build their strength.
