One of my absolute favorite places in the world! During our trip to Sicily for my 50th birthday, my wife and I spent a few days in the area. While exploring, we stumbled upon this enchanting rock where people were casually changing out of their regular clothes to take a refreshing swim in the stunning cobalt sea. Some were wearing bathing suits, while others simply went in with whatever they had on underneath, and it didn't seem to matter at all. We even witnessed a man in a business suit undress down to his speedo, dive into the water, swim a considerable distance, and then air-dry before getting dressed and heading back to work. Now that's what I call achieving a perfect work-life balance!
The bay is great for swimming, but it's quite rocky, so it's advisable to bring rock shoes for added comfort.
The beach in Ortigia and its surrounding area is a one-of-a-kind and pleasant spot for swimming. However, it tends to get quite crowded with rocks during the warmer months. Despite that, it's still worth checking out if you happen to be in the heat. The sunbathing area on the rocks and the water were also relatively clean, which is quite uncommon for beaches in Italy/Sicily.
If you happen to be in Ortigia, this beach is a great place for swimming and sunbathing. The water is incredibly clear, and you can enjoy a lovely view of Ortigia from the rocks.
My wife and I have recently arrived in Italy and this beach has been a wonderful way to start our trip. Our Airbnb is conveniently located just a short distance from this beach. The water here is refreshing, tranquil, and transparent, making it ideal for swimmers of all abilities. Although seating options are limited, you can confidently leave your belongings on the shore while you take a dip in the water.
