Muriwai Beach

This beach is absolutely breathtaking. The black sand is incredibly soft and doesn't cling to your skin. The views are stunning and it's not overcrowded. The waves are massive and appear quite turbulent. However, if you head further up, there's a designated swimming area where the waves seem smaller and less rough. It's only a 50-minute drive from Auckland CBD, making it a highly recommended destination to visit.

Whites Beach

This beach, located north of Piha Beach, is incredibly beautiful and secluded, surrounded by hills and cliffs. On the north end of the beach, there is a large cave that offers a great opportunity for exploration. The beach has black sand, which can become scorching hot under the sun. It is advisable to wear sandals or shoes and bring a towel to sit on. Accessing this beach is not easy, but there are two ways to reach it from Piha. One option is to take the Marawhawa trail from north Piha road, located at the northern end of Piha Beach. After walking for approximately 10 minutes, you will reach the White trail, which will lead you to Whites Beach after a 45-minute hike. Alternatively, you can drive north on Piha road for about 10 minutes until you reach Anawhata road. Turn left onto Anawhata road and continue driving for approximately 20 minutes until you reach the Rose trail parking area. From there, it is a downhill walk of about 30 minutes to Whites Beach. Although the steep walk back up may be a bit longer and more challenging, it is definitely worth it!

This beach is an incredible spot for taking a leisurely stroll or simply unwinding. On the opposite side, you'll find a couple of benches, a playground for children, and restroom facilities. Additionally, there are numerous restaurants in the vicinity. However, parking can sometimes be a challenge, depending on the day and time.

Waiake Beach

This beach is great for kids to play in the shallow water as the tide goes out. The jumping platform is fantastic, and there is plenty of grassy space to set up your spot. Additionally, there is a playground to keep the kids entertained, as well as toilet and changing facilities. It's not too crowded either!

Long Bay Beach

This beach is absolutely beautiful! It's a great place to take your family for a day out. The sand is pristine and the water is very inviting. I suggest bringing a BBQ to have a meal by the sea on a sunny day. The atmosphere is calm and perfect for kids to run around and play. And the sunset views are truly stunning. Remember to bring sunscreen and maybe a frisbee or volleyball for some fun. It's a perfect place to create lasting memories with your family.
