I recently returned from Sunset Key cottages and I must say, I was quite disappointed. The island itself is wonderful, offering peacefulness and breathtaking views. The cottage we stayed in was spacious and comfortable. However, the service left much to be desired. Throughout our stay, not a single employee reminded us about the $300 resort credit we had. As a result, we were completely unaware of it. It was rather disheartening that on multiple occasions, the employees assumed we were just visitors and not actual guests staying on the island. This was probably why they asked for our card instead of charging it to our available resort credit. Furthermore, I had booked this trip months in advance and about a month before our stay, I happened to check the Sunset Key website. It was then that I discovered a promotion offering discounted rates along with resort credit. I immediately called to update our reservation, but it would have been much appreciated if someone from the resort had notified me about this promotion. Additionally, we were only able to use $200 of the credit because we were unaware that we still had $300 remaining. The service at the beach was also extremely sluggish. We were often ignored while we observed others being served. Overall, it is a beautiful place, but considering the amount I paid, I had higher expectations for the level of service provided.
We arrived at the beach by boat to have breakfast, where we were pleasantly surprised by the delightful key lime pancakes. However, the fried pork belly turned out to be a disappointing rectangular log, cold to the touch, and with a texture resembling Pâté.
When we visit Key West, we never want to stay anywhere else. The island is absolutely stunning, with its lush landscape and the staff is incredibly helpful. The food choices are excellent, and the cottages are simply perfect! We're already looking forward to our next visit.
I didn't have a good experience here. The property itself is very nice, with a beautiful white sand beach and it's only a 7-minute boat ride away from Key West, which is a nice bonus. However, the main issue is the inconsistent staff and the lack of comprehensive training. For instance, when my card was rejected, someone called me and left a voicemail. When I called back, nobody at the hotel knew who that person was, and I was put on hold for about 5 minutes. Eventually, I had to call the manager who was able to solve the issue. Another incident occurred when we wanted to have dinner one evening, but the kitchen was about to close in 15 minutes. The hostess simply ignored us, so we had to call the manager in order to place our order. Furthermore, the service at the pool was not friendly enough for a hotel that claims to be 5-star. Lastly, when we were checking out, the staff members who were supposed to assist with our bags were not properly trained and lacked friendliness. If this hotel had a price range of $300-$500 per night, it would be considered nice, but given the price we paid, I expected perfection. The only exceptional service we received came from an island ambassador named Jas. I wish all the staff members were like him.
We had an incredible time during our second visit to this beach. The property is absolutely stunning and offers breathtaking sunsets every evening. The staff was exceptional, especially Jas who warmly greeted us and consistently checked in on us throughout our stay. Additionally, Thomas, the bartender, went above and beyond to ensure our drinks were made to our liking. He even prepared special frozen drinks for our young children. The staff truly goes the extra mile, making this place truly special. Our toddlers eagerly anticipated the daily visit from the ice cream man at the pool, and they loved the morning deliveries of fruit, yogurt, croissants, muffins, and evening chocolates. It added an element of fun to our stay. The resort has a peaceful and romantic atmosphere, yet we felt completely at ease bringing our four young children with us. This was greatly appreciated. The food at Latitudes was outstanding, and we found it difficult to venture off the island because we enjoyed everything on Sunset Key so much. Despite having visited Key West for many years, there is no place quite like Sunset Key! We are already looking forward to returning each year.
