Lawa Island Beach

Located just 1.7 miles (2.8 km) northeast of Laem Yat in Northeastern Phuket, Koh Lawa Yai Island is a small yet charming island situated southeast of Phang Nga province by 1 mile (1.6 km) in Phang Nga Bay. Koh Lawa Yai Island is a recognized Thailand national park, making it a serene and natural destination for tourists. The island's main beach is situated on the northwest corner of the island and stretches over 1,266 feet (386 m) in length. This medium-sized beach is part of the national parks group Ao Phang Nga and offers a peaceful and calming atmosphere, perfect for those seeking a tranquil beach experience.

The beach is a delightful destination to spend your time, with attentive staff on hand to cater to your every need. The cleaning of the rooms is done to a high standard, ensuring a comfortable and pleasant stay. However, the marketing tactics employed by agora are somewhat questionable, as the substantial discounts offered can create unrealistic expectations that may not be met.

When embarking on a Phang Nga Bay tour, be sure to make a stop at this breathtaking beach. It stands out as one of the tour's most remarkable highlights, yet some tours may shy away from the island, claiming it's too distant. However, this couldn't be further from the truth, as the island is easily accessible by longtail boat. We were fortunate enough to be the first visitors of the day, arriving around 1pm. The island is small but picturesque, and the beach is the perfect spot for a refreshing dip. You'll find respite from the crowds here, as it's a peaceful getaway. Additionally, there are accommodations available for those who want to extend their stay.

The island boasts a lovely beach that is particularly beautiful during high tide. The park and facilities are exceptionally clean, which adds to the overall charm of the place. However, what truly sets this destination apart is the kindness of the Rangers Staff. The Ranger's Chief, in particular, goes above and beyond to assist visitors, making their stay a memorable one. I was lucky enough to paddle my seakayak through the Andaman Sea and stay overnight, during which I was even offered a delicious dinner. It was truly a lovely experience.

The island offers limited activities, leaving swimming as the main attraction. However, the security personnel impose a fee of 100 baht for the use of chairs, which may dampen the experience. Nonetheless, the pristine waters and the gentle breeze make for a serene and refreshing ambiance. Overall, the beach is a great spot to unwind and soak up the sun. Consider bringing your own beach gear to avoid additional charges.
