The beach on this island has the potential to be a picturesque paradise, but unfortunately, it is marred by the presence of litter and people who detract from the natural beauty. The scattered shards of beer bottles and the unsightly Zodiac bar are particularly disappointing. However, there is a silver lining in the form of a budget-friendly restaurant located near Ananya Lipe that serves delicious food. Despite the island's shortcomings, it is still worth a visit, although it falls short of being the idyllic haven that it could be. As avid travelers who have explored 80% of Thailand's islands, we can attest to its unrealized potential.
The east coast of Koh Lipe boasts the ever-popular Sunrise Beach, known for its crystal clear turquoise waters and breathtaking views of Koh Adang and smaller islands. The 1.2 km stretch of sand runs from the south east corner of the island to the north coast, where it transforms into Bulow Beach. Locally referred to as Chao Ley Beach, Sunrise Beach is home to the Chao Ley Village, a semi-nomadic community of seafaring people who set up camp on beaches and move seasonally. The beach is also adorned with picturesque wooden long tail boats, adding to its natural charm. Sunrise Beach is a must-visit destination for those seeking a serene and idyllic beach experience on Koh Lipe.
The stunning shoreline of Koh Lipe is an absolute delight to behold and easily stands out as our top pick. It's an idyllic location for snorkeling, particularly with the small islands nearby.
This beach has stunningly clear water, but shade is scarce, making sunscreen a necessity. However, if you're willing to walk to Andaman Resort, you may find some relief from the sun and fewer boats parked there compared to the beach near Varin Village.
This beach is a great spot to catch the sunrise, as many people gather here for that purpose. Despite the crowds, the atmosphere remains calm and inviting. Later in the day, visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling. However, it can get busy with long tail boats at certain times.
