Telok Melano is a great destination to explore with your friends and family. The scenery is absolutely stunning, and the beach is well-maintained. The food options are delicious and reasonably priced. However, there is a slight concern when it comes to minors riding ATVs without adult supervision. It would be beneficial to address this issue before any unfortunate accidents occur, considering that it is a public place and everyone's safety could be at risk.
The beach was tidy and the water was quite transparent, especially when compared to the usual standards in Sarawak. If my memory serves me right, you can rent an ATV for approximately RM20 for a duration of 10 minutes. Within this vicinity, you'll come across amiable vendors who offer food and are willing to provide directions. Seashells are scattered around, and you'll also spot children enjoying themselves on the beach. Overall, it's a rather suitable place for families.
The beach and its surroundings were incredibly beautiful and clean when I visited eight months ago. It was a fantastic place to spend time with family. However, during my recent visit on August 31, 2023, I was extremely disappointed for several reasons. Firstly, the beach and its surroundings were littered with rubbish, which was disheartening to see. Secondly, the beach itself was not as nice as it was before due to the presence of numerous ATVs, causing the sand to become less soft and white. Additionally, the peaceful atmosphere of the beach was disrupted by loud music played by both the locals and the ATV riders. Furthermore, there were no public toilets available for visitors, despite the fact that the construction of new facilities was supposed to be completed in February 2022, over a year ago. Lastly, I learned from the locals that they still do not have a proper water supply and rely on water sources from the nearby mountain and rain. It is crucial for the MP to pay more attention to the infrastructure and the needs of the local community here.
There isn't much to do at this beach, it's mainly for sightseeing. However, the scenery is absolutely stunning, with a beautiful island. To fully experience all the hidden gems, like Tanjung Datu and Talang-Satang island, it's recommended for visitors to arrange their trip with a local guide or boatman. You won't be disappointed, and there's so much more to discover in Sarawak.
We had a wonderful time with our family at the beach. Since we arrived around noon and it was getting hotter, there weren't many activities to do. We just relaxed and had a picnic while enjoying the mesmerizing beach. Don't worry, there are plenty of stalls to choose from. We bought coconut and sugarcane drinks, fruits, and BBQ meat there. We also had the opportunity to try riding an ATV quad bike on the beach, which was a 10-minute ride for RM20. Overall, the view was great and we had a fantastic time, except for a few suggestions. It would be appreciated if the toilets were kept clean and their locations were clearly marked so that people know where to find them. It would also be nice to have more huts built so that people can sit and enjoy the view or engage in activities. Lastly, access to tap water is important. My aunt went to a toilet further from the beach and found that there was no water to flush or wash hands at that time. Does the lack of water mean that the toilets are under maintenance or is there construction nearby? I hope these issues can be improved because I believe Telok Melano has the potential to become a popular tourist attraction. Perhaps we can take inspiration from places like Phuket.
