It's a beach that we absolutely adore, with no crowds in sight, the ocean is stunning, basically, it has everything we could ask for.
The shoreline, thankfully, is rather empty, ideal for a peaceful day by the sea, free from noisy and impolite neighbors with parasols, the finest. We arrived there by bicycle, the lack of parking spaces aiding in deterring large crowds.
Location for my strolls along the shore with companions or by myself beginning at Bagno Laura in Castiglione della Pescaia. A grand and enigmatic ancient structure, it conjures up power and elevates this uninhabited, untouched, tranquil expanse of beach where I sense a rekindled connection to the splendor of the natural world. Whether you pause or not varies depending on the day, breeze, warmth, etc... be cautious of horseflies, apply some sunscreen before heading there.
Situated on the border between the towns of Castiglione della Pescaia and Grosseto, this structure was established in 1721 as a health tower during the outbreak of the plague from Marseille. It was later repurposed as a salt factory in 1757, then transformed into a military fort by Grand Duke Leopold II of Tuscany in 1761. Subsequently, it served as the headquarters of the Guardia di Finanza until 1925, when it was acquired by private individuals and converted into a summer residence. Positioned strategically in the past and offering panoramic views today, the Marze beach is a captivating and one-of-a-kind destination. Ideal for leisurely strolls during the summer and winter months, this magical place boasts stunning sunsets over the islands of Giglio, Montecristo, and Elba, as well as breathtaking sunrises over Diaccia Botrona.
Incredible expanse of shoreline, a leisurely stroll is required to reach it. A parking area is located approximately a 20-minute walk down the beach. It's an unofficial parking spot, so be prepared to gamble.
