The beach near Heraklion has a lovely sandy shore, and the water is crystal clear. It's convenient that they have bars and sunbeds available. Although there are more breathtaking beaches on Crete with better water quality and stunning views, none of them are as close to the city as this one.
During our two-week stay in Crete, we found that this beach was the least enjoyable. However, it should be noted that the beach is easily accessible.
We had a great time at the beach. It was a bit breezy, but that's to be expected. We loved watching planes come in and out of the nearby airport, but the noise didn't bother us. The water was perfect, and there weren't too many rocks. We rented an umbrella and some lounge chairs for 7€ and ordered lunch and cocktails from News Cafe Beach. I suggest getting there early because it fills up fast. We arrived at 10:30 and there were plenty of chairs available, but they were all taken by early afternoon. Overall, we had a great day and would definitely come back!
The beach did not quite live up to the expectations of being a paradise-like destination in Greece as depicted in pictures. However, it is easily accessible and still offers a pleasant experience.
The beach is really nice, although it can get a bit windy. It has a sandy shore and a variety of amenities, such as hotels with bars, toilets, and sunbeds. If you want to rent sunbeds for the day, you can do so at the Sentido Unique Blue Resort for €30, which also gives you access to the hotel facilities and waiter service on the beach. This beach is a great option if you're only visiting Heraklion for the day, like we did on a cruise. It's just a 10-minute taxi ride from the port, and the fare is around €20 each way. The airport runway is located at the end of the beach, which is ideal for plane enthusiasts. However, the planes are far enough away that they won't disturb you.
