Wellawatte Beach is located on the Laccadive Sea (part of Indian ocean) and it is in the 178th place out of 235 beaches in the Sri Lanka region 6.9 km away from its center, the city of Colombo. It is one of the beaches of Polhengoda settlement, just 2.7 km from its center. The beach is located in an urban area.

It is a spacious coastline with turquoise water and bright sand, so you don't need special shoes. The sharpness of entering the water is quite normal. This beach is suitable for different categories of people, lonely travellers, relaxation getaway lovers etc. It is partially crowded during the high season.

Wellawatte Beach coast is free for all. This beach has the following amenities, beach restaurant, changing rooms, showers, toilets, sea pool. .

It's perfectly fine to visit the beach during midday as the sun isn't too intense. The scenery is beautiful and it's a popular location for short film shoots. Transportation services are easily accessible and the beach is conveniently located near a railway station. There are plenty of restaurants and hotels in the area, making it easy to find a place to eat or stay. However, if you plan on lounging on the sand, be aware that there are limited seating options available.

It's truly disheartening to witness the pollution that has taken over the beach. Despite this unfortunate reality, spending an evening with your loved ones can still be a wonderful experience. However, it's important to note that the beach is not as pristine as we would hope.

This beach is undoubtedly aesthetically pleasing, but don't be fooled by its looks. Not every inch of this sandy paradise is suitable for a refreshing dip. So, if you're looking to frolic in the waves, you might want to exercise caution and do some reconnaissance before diving in.

Undoubtedly, the beach boasts breathtaking beauty. However, the upkeep leaves much to be desired. The abundance of litter is a major eyesore and detracts from the overall appeal. Additionally, the lack of shoreline along the expanse makes it difficult to find a comfortable spot to relax and relish in the surroundings.
