The beach may not be huge, but it has everything necessary for an enjoyable day out – plus, it's easily accessible.

My family and I had a terrible time at the beach. The kids were particularly unhappy as they had to hunt for crabs and hermit crabs around the rocks and swimming was not much fun either. Even letting them climb the rocks was a disaster.

Ameixida beach

The cliff path from the beach leads us to Praia da Secada, where we can spot the ruins of a former salting room and its small ramp, which is still standing in spite of the sea's relentless battering. Sadly, the site has been left to weather the elements, with no hope of being restored.

The crystal-clear waters of the beach are a refreshing treat, while the sand is slightly rough, with pebbles and seashells scattered throughout.
