You may not be able to swim, but this beach is perfect for unwinding and soaking up the beautiful views of the outdoors.

White Rock Beach

White rock, a scenic 90-minute drive from Martinborough along a 25km gravel road. If you seek a secluded yet stunning spot to enjoy an afternoon or perhaps even stay the night, this is the ideal location for you. Complete with a communal restroom, seagulls, and seals, you will have company during your leisurely stroll along the shore.

Petone Beach

Well, I suppose it all depends on what you're looking for in a beach. It's long, easy to get to, dog-friendly, has a great view, and is close to the Jackson Street shops. However, coming from Christchurch, I have to say that Petone Beach doesn't quite measure up to Sumner or New Brighton beaches, which I consider to be 5-star beaches. When I think of a beach, I think of sunbathing, playing in the sand, and swimming as my top priorities. While Petone Beach does offer easy access to water, shops, a nice view, and space for dogs, the sand is full of shells, broken shells, and sticks, making it difficult to walk barefoot. The water may be warm, but it's visibly dirty. Personally, I don't think it deserves more than 3 stars. However, it's great for running and the view is absolutely stunning.

Te Awaiti Beach
