The beach is a fantastic and secure spot for swimming. It's also a great place to engage in open water sea training, with lifeguards available for assistance. I recommend going early in the morning for the best experience. The only thing I wish is that people would take responsibility and clean up after themselves.
I had a great time at Umdloti beach, enjoying some relaxing days by the warm pool. The sunrise and sunset were absolutely fantastic, and I felt safe and protected in the area. It was interesting to see how the rich and poor coexist along the popular tourist coastline of Durban. In Umdloti, there is a modern and expansive market that offers a variety of international food options, making it feel like a world food street.
I felt a lot more relaxed and secure, which makes it a great place for families with young children. I really enjoyed my time there, although I'm currently recovering from a muscle injury. The rough waters of the open sea were a bit challenging for me, but at this beach, I felt comfortable enough to go in and have a good time. Additionally, the sand is nice and soft underfoot.
The beach is incredibly clean! The strong winds made the sand feel like sharp pieces of glass against our skin. It was disappointing that we had to get a municipal pass, especially since we traveled a long distance, and we couldn't even access the restaurants. However, despite these drawbacks, it remains our family's preferred destination.
One of my go-to spots for a relaxing family beach day is this place. On weekends, there are vendors selling beach toys and ice cream right on the beach, which is incredibly convenient for keeping the kids entertained. There are plenty of amenities nearby, including coffee shops, clothing stores, a gas station, a pharmacy, and a super spar. So, even if you decide to go to the beach spontaneously, you can rest assured that you'll find everything you need right there. Additionally, during low tide, it's really enjoyable to wander around the rocks.
