The beach had litter both on the sand and in the water, including the ocean floor. The buildings appeared quite old and poorly maintained, lacking cleanliness. Numerous construction materials were scattered around, posing potential hazards. Additionally, the toilet water directly flowed into the ocean, and there was a complete absence of shade on the beach.
I agree with most people's opinions. The lack of cleanliness and abundance of bugs made it impossible for me to relax or even take a nap in the hammock. I was advised to go to the hut and have the fan turned on to keep the bugs away, but I didn't come here just to sit by a fan. The bug bites were so severe that I wanted to leave on the first day. Although I initially planned to stay for 3 nights, I managed to depart a day earlier, but unfortunately, I wasted around $350 and ended up with over 500 bug bites. The bed bugs were extremely active, so on the second night, I found myself sitting outside on the deck, gazing at the sky. I'm still on my trip, but I feel self-conscious about wearing shorts because the red marks are so noticeable, especially on my legs. If you want to avoid being devoured by bugs or bed bugs, it's best not to stay overnight or even consider going there at all.
I am giving this place a 5-star rating due to the amazing experience it offers. It has a very rustic vibe, so don't expect to have room service available. The cabins are situated above the water and each has its own private dock, providing a stunning view of the crystal clear water. We brought pool floats and have been exploring various areas. Additionally, they offer a boat tour of other islands as part of the package. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are included, and they consist of freshly caught seafood served daily! The coffee provided is instant, so it would be wise to bring some ground coffee and a Costa Rica style drip if you prefer. Let me set your expectations: there is no Wi-Fi, but the TiGo cell coverage is decent. Power is only available from around 6 pm to 6 am. However, if there's a World Cup game on, they will turn on the power at the restaurant so you can watch it. There is no hot water, but considering the hot climate, it's not really necessary if you're only staying for a few days. Lastly, don't forget to bring your own shampoo, towels, and my wife insists that you bring a mirror too, haha!
The beach doesn't offer much comfort, the food is average, and there is a lot of litter on the island. The locals are also just average in terms of friendliness. Despite the potential, they seem to be lazy and not making the most of the island. The fresh water has an unpleasant odor and the toilets are extremely dirty. There is no electricity in the room, even though there are light switches, none of which work. Our door was broken, so we had to manually lift it to close it for the night. It could truly be a paradise here, but the locals are not very clean. I wouldn't recommend staying here for more than one night, as there are likely much better islands. The breakfast consists of two slices of toast with a slice of packaged cheese, a slice of salami, and a fried egg. The food is okay, but nothing special. The beer is priced at $2, which is also okay. These people don't really understand the needs of tourists, yet they still make a lot of money from them. I wonder where all this money goes, as they don't invest anything in the cabins or comfort. It's truly a shame that these people don't take care of such a beautiful paradise in the ocean.
We stayed in the cabins that had a private bathroom. The check-in process was a bit confusing because none of the staff spoke English, but eventually, we found our way to our cabin. The cabin was more or less what we expected based on the description when we made the booking. The water had a noticeable odor, but considering it's a remote island, it's not surprising. The bed was basic but functional, and the toilet worked most of the time. The meals were decent and pretty much the same every day, but we didn't bring any snacks and never felt hungry. They had cold beer and other drinks available for purchase. If you're planning to drink while you're there, it's a good idea to bring a bottle of liquor and supplement it with beers. All in all, it was a fantastic experience. Just keep in mind that this is a step above camping, so don't expect the locals to be overly accommodating or overly interested in taking care of you. Things can be a bit chaotic and disorganized, but if you can relax and enjoy being disconnected, it's an incredible time.
