Flambouria Beach, located on the western side of the island in the homonymous Flambouria settlement, is a fairly long beach with sand, pebbles, and a few tamarisk trees. The beach is divided into two smaller beaches by a small piece of land, the small and the large. You can also find the small church of Panagia Flabouriani here, which celebrates every year on August 23 with a local festival where residents from all over the island gather as well as visitors. The entire route is paved but with many tight turns. It's about 12 km from the port of Mericha, and there is a small tavern next to the church and the SOIRRE cafe which is worth visiting for coffee, ice cream or sweets. The beach is not crowded, so you will have enough peace and most importantly, if you stay late, you will enjoy one of the best sunsets in Kythnos.
Actually, there are two bays that are divided by a rock where the church is located. The second bay has a spectacular bottom with large fish, but it requires a bit of caution as the plate tends to slide and balancing can be difficult. Additionally, there is a tavern run by Mrs. Giannoula that serves cooked food. While most of the dishes are delicious, some are average.
The beach is serene and the water is crystal clear, making it perfect for exploring the marine life. Additionally, the water is slightly warmer compared to the other beaches on the island.
A great spot to unwind and destress.
The beach is decent and conveniently accessible via an asphalt road. However, the real highlight is the stunning sunset view from the nearby church rocks. Overall, a solid 10/10.
