We visited this beach in November 2023 and found it to be quite intriguing. Despite the rainy weather, we were fortunate that the rain cleared up long enough for us to enjoy exploring the area. We are looking forward to returning on a sunny day in the future. We made sure to check the tide times and arrived when the tide was starting to go out.
There are plenty of craggy rocks and crevices at this beach, making it a popular spot for rock climbers looking for a challenge. The small but tricky rock face with a cave archway is a highlight. There are also good rock pools for crab hunting. The free carpark offers excellent birdwatching opportunities. Unfortunately, there are no toilets available. The sand here is better than at Southerness Beach.
This beach has everything - sand, shells, rock pools, and Thirlstane Arch. It's a fantastic spot.
Powillimount Beach in Southerness, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland is a wonderful beach destination with plenty of rocks to explore, clean water, a nearby caravan park, a lighthouse, and free parking. The scenery is stunning, with a sandy beach, climbing rocks, pools to discover, a rock arch to explore, and a shelter for sitting or barbecuing. It's perfect for exploring coves and caves, but be mindful of the tide as it can change quickly. This beautiful beach offers little coves and soft sand for a relaxing day by the sea.
The beach is stunningly long, with a mix of rocky and sandy areas scattered with shells. There is also a remarkable cave and wild flowers dotting the landscape. The car park can accommodate around 20 vehicles and is kept in good condition. It is possible to walk to Southerness or Carsethorn along the beach during low tide.
