The beach is the perfect spot on the island for learning how to surf, and it's even better because there are turtles everywhere, way more than you'll find on any turtle tour.
I recently returned from an amazing time in Atlantic Shores, which felt like paradise. My friends and I had the best time at freights Bay surf access, where we enjoyed relaxing, surfing, and even got to see some turtles. However, we were really disappointed to witness the gardener from the white villa called "Sea Window Villas" dumping garden waste. It's such an eyesore and unfortunately, it encourages others to do the same. What's even more concerning is the impact it has on the environment. I actually spotted rats multiple times living under the waste. I've attached some photos as evidence. Let's all work together to keep Barbados beautiful and clean by putting an end to waste dumping, as it not only ruins the view but also poses a threat to wildlife.
The beach is a fantastic spot for surfing with a mostly flat rock bottom. The water is shallow, and there is convenient access through a stair case. Additionally, you can enjoy the company of numerous turtles that come up for air while waiting for a wave.
For beginners, this beach is ideal for longboarding. It's best to surf here when the waves are under 4ft and during low tide. Waves rarely exceed 5ft, and if they do, it's mostly crowded with locals. The crowd is friendly, but the presence of surf schools can be obstructive. Unfortunately, the schools here don't prioritize teaching surf etiquette, which becomes problematic on days with waves over 4ft as the locals expect everyone to follow the unspoken rules. Additionally, there are plenty of turtles in the area.
It was absolutely stunning. We were lucky enough to witness turtles feeding all along the beach during our visit.
