On Yuin land, 4.5 hours drive from Sydney, Tuross Head is where the Tuross River and Lake meet the sea. This confluence creates some relatively calm places to swim, even when the surf is pounding out the back from a big swell. Main Beach is the best of these, a lovely little arc of golden sand littered with driftwood from the bushfires carried down the river, which visitors arrange and rearrange into various structures. It’s popular with families because of the safer waters and it’s overlooked by Tuross Beach Cabins & Campsites, where we’re staying in a cute beachfront cabin. It’s a nice place to swim in a sleepy coastal village that hasn’t been wrecked by overdevelopment yet. The length of the drive from Sydney seems to have protected it so far.
I've seen pufferfish here before and the current can get pretty strong out in the deeper part. There are good shells. A lot of driftwood after the bushfires. I've never seen so much. I could barely walk across the beach. Also have stayed in the cabins here. Pretty good.
Fabulous beach, great for you kids.
