The beach is clean, but finding parking can be difficult and stressful. There is limited public beach access due to the many private beaches in the area. I suggest heading further north for a more spacious beach experience.
The beach in South Haven is stunning, well-maintained, and spacious. It's the perfect spot for a quick summer escape on Lake Michigan.
North Beach is the ideal destination for a romantic beach escape, offering warm, sunny days and stunning sunsets. Spoil your loved one with a luxurious vacation complete with top-notch accommodations, entertainment, delicious dining options, and pristine white sands.
I stayed at a nearby B&B for a week and visited the beach multiple times. The south beach has more room than the north beach, but there are many private beaches there, making it unclear if you can walk along the shoreline. The sand is fine-grained and not sticky since it's freshwater, with very few plant remnants. The beach is cleaned several times a week. It is mostly families with young children or retirees, and there is not a college party atmosphere. There are very few restaurants near the beach, so it is not a nightlife hotspot.
I visited this beach two weeks ago for a last-minute mini vacation, and it was truly magical at sunset. The weather was clear and cool, around 70°F, too cold for swimming but we didn't mind. There was a riptide that day, but the beach had flags indicating the water conditions. It wasn't too busy during the day, and in the evening it was quiet and secluded. I'm looking forward to returning again!
