Great little cafe in a nicely restored castle. Well worth a visit
Zzzzz
It is very valuable as a historical artifact and structure. However, it has become very bad due to neglect and indifference. The local government and the monuments board need to take care of it first.
It is a second military structure located very close to the beach in Payas. It is an observation tower built in 1577 to protect the harbour. It is understood that it constitutes the last link of the effort to establish an Ottoman city in Payas. In other words, considering the construction date, the tower constitutes the last major structure of the core settlement built in Payas, after the pier, customs, shipyard and social complex. Due to its proximity to the port, it was also used as a customs gate. It was built in 1577, between the castle and the harbour, to protect the harbour. This structure, formerly known as "Iskele Castle", is a two-storey police station tower with a 360-degree field of view. It is understood that it constitutes the last link of the effort to create an Ottoman city. In other words, considering its construction date, the tower constitutes the last major structure of the core settlement built in Payas, after the pier, customs, shipyard and social complex. After the redoubts (fortifications built separately and reinforced with weapons) built in the harbour, it was built on a point overlooking the harbour, to resist the attack of enemy ships and to increase the defense obligation of Payas Castle. In 975 A.H./1577 A.D., Babiali, with an instruction sent to Uzeyr Bey and his Kadi, ordered that a tower in the style of the Maiden's Tower, located opposite the Palace Cape in Istanbul, be built in a suitable place of the port and four cannons and enough fortresses should be placed in it. After this decree was sent, the construction of the castle started. Evliya Çelebi, who saw Payas in the 17th century, expresses his observations as follows; “The pier tower is a round and solid tower, and the castle guards watch over it day and night. Because customs is here. “ Cin Kule was repaired and opened to tourism. There is a nice cafeteria inside. You sit there and chat about who came and went.
It is used as a public toilet... You cannot go in because of the smell. I would not go in. The historical buildings are very well preserved😁😁
