Did our first 4WD trip here with a few good friends. What an awesome time we had. We had camp zone 1 and plenty of spots to chose from to setup a camp site. Had a nice trip up around to double island point, great access to public bins and toilets up at the freshwater camp ground. Will definitely be coming back here again.
Great, spot. Always good here, have been camping here for many many years. However in the recent times there are way too many speeding and groups of youths hooning. Great to see the Rangers daily and of course the Iceman.
We came here for a camping trip and was one of the best camping trips we have ever had. So glad we did for $7 a night a beach vehicle permit for $35 for the week. You can't go wrong. Rainbow Beach is about 45 - 1hr drive depending on traffic. Great place for families for a long weekend or school holidays. You will need a 4wd otherwise you won't get to the camping sites. Highly recommended.
Drop your tyres to 18psi, drive like mad thru the first few hundred metres of soft sand, then (low tide) settle in for a nice 45k drive each way to the idyllic Rainbow Beach - great day out!
I LOVE this place! So good and cheap for camping. Fishing all along the beach. Drive up the beach to double island point where you can surf, fish or walk up to the headland. Go through the small 4WD track and the northern side of double island point is protected from most winds, great fishing, and great spot to set up with the family. Head along that beach, or take freshwater creek road through the beautiful rainforest to rainbow beach, Inskip point and the barge for Fraser island. Absolutely best place (beats Fraser only just due to costs to get to Fraser on the barge)!
