There are two options to reach this stunning beach: either by taking a leisurely hike or by hopping on a shuttle. The shuttle service charges $25 for a round trip or $15 for a one-way ride back to the parking lot. However, if you're up for a bit of adventure, the 3-mile hike is a great option. The trail offers various paths and breathtaking views that make the journey to the beach an exciting experience in itself. Once you arrive, you'll be greeted by a beautiful beach, although it may be smaller than you anticipated. If you plan on taking a dip in the ocean, it's important to exercise caution. The right side of the beach has higher and rougher waves, while the left side is more tranquil but still offers a thrilling experience. Additionally, you can climb up to the top of the cliffs for a stunning panoramic view or a bird's eye view of the picturesque scenery below.

While snorkeling at the beach, we stumbled upon a few rocks on our way in and out of the water. The wind was blowing strong and the waves were quite intense, which made it difficult to navigate the shallow rocky area. Additionally, the sand was scorching hot, which made it uncomfortable to walk on. Despite these challenges, the black sand beach was truly remarkable, with lava rocks scattered throughout and a designated area for turtles to lay their eggs. I even spotted one while swimming in the water, but unfortunately, some children rushed over and attempted to ride it. It would have been nice if the parents were more attentive and aware of the strong tide. Fortunately, there was a shop nearby selling clothing and jewelry, and a lifeguard on duty to ensure everyone's safety. There were also bathrooms on the west side of the beach, complete with a clean sand-off area. Overall, this beach was still a great destination, despite some minor setbacks.
