Although I had read a few reviews that warned about the beach being difficult to reach, I decided to give it a try anyway. Contrary to what Google Maps suggests, the entrance point is not where you would expect it to be. To get there, you need to walk about 1km from Corniglia to Vernazza, passing the supposed end point of the Google Maps route to the beach. Once you cross a narrow concrete bridge, the path down to the beach begins where the fence on the left side of the walkway ends. The descent is quite steep and requires careful footing, but the effort is worth it. The beach itself is not very large, with mostly large stones to lie on, and entering the water can be challenging due to strong waves and rocks. Nevertheless, the beach is secluded and offers a sense of privacy that many will appreciate. Overall, I would recommend this beach to those seeking a tranquil and intimate setting.
Although the beach was devoid of people, which was a refreshing change from the bustling crowds at other nearby beaches in Cinque Terre, it was quite challenging to reach. It's important to note that one must trek down a steep and slick path to get there. While the climb back up was relatively easier, we simply weren't mentally prepared for the journey.
Getting to this beach in July is no easy feat, as it is officially closed and the path leading to it is overgrown and steep. The journey is not for the faint of heart or those who are out of shape. It can be quite time-consuming, especially when it starts to get dark. My girlfriend and I even dubbed it The beach of death because she was skeptical we would make it.
The beginning of the path is quite simple to navigate until you reach a residence with a fallen tree, after which it becomes a bit uncertain. Moreover, accessing the beach is extremely challenging due to the prevalence of landslides. Nonetheless, if you are able to reach the beach, it is a remarkably secluded and exclusive experience.
Embarking on a hiking expedition from Corniglia to Vernazza is an absolute must. The trail is not too challenging, ranging from low to medium difficulty, and there are plenty of spots to rest along the way. However, the breathtaking views that await you at the end of the hike make every step worth it.
