This location was incredible - the dark sand and lack of tourists made it a truly special experience. Getting there was an adventure in itself, since the road was quite challenging to navigate with a car. Nevertheless, we had a great time!
The jet-black sand of this beach is truly captivating. When the waters are serene, it's a wonderful spot to relax and take in the ocean views. But, when the waters become choppy, it can be very dangerous. Watching the huge waves crash against the shoreline is mesmerizing. The road to get there is quite narrow, but parking is available for a nominal fee of three euros.
This beach was great - the sand was black, the waves were big, and even though there was a red flag, we were still able to go in the water (not too deep). Plus, it was easy to access and there were lifeguards on duty.
Playa del Bollullo is lovely and not too crowded. The sea is quite wild, so there is a red flag warning. I'd suggest parking your car on the main road, about a 5 minute drive away from the beach. The last stretch of the road is a one-way for two-way traffic, which can be a bit intimidating. If you do decide to drive all the way, there is a restaurant at the beach where you can park for 3 euros. The food there is really good, so I'd definitely recommend it!
It's a shame that the beach is closed. We could see it from a distance and it looked beautiful. If it was open, it would have been a great experience to spend some time there. However, getting to the beach is no small task - it's a long walk from Puerto de la Cruz and the roads to get there are quite narrow. So, you may want to think twice before making the trip.
