Hotel Cala Joncols is a truly remarkable and secluded spot in Catalunya. If you're searching for a unique and tranquil escape, this is the perfect place. The location, accommodation, cuisine and service all surpassed our expectations. We highly recommend getting the full pension, as the food is delicious and it's great value for money (especially since the nearest restaurant is a 20-minute walk away). To get there, don't follow the GPS (especially if you're coming from Cadaques); follow the hotel's instructions and drive through Roses. The journey takes 30 minutes and takes you through some stunning scenery, and the beach has gray sand with pebbles. The effort is certainly worth it for the great hospitality and stunning views!
We stayed at this hotel in the middle of May 2022, during the pre-season, and it was fantastic! Don't rely on GPS navigation to get there, or you may end up lost like we did. It's best to ask the front desk for directions or to arrange a boat or SUV transfer. The access road is unpaved and quite bumpy. We booked a room with a balcony and a stunning view of the bay. During our stay, we didn't take advantage of any boat or diving experiences, but we did enjoy the tranquil atmosphere of the hotel. Don't forget to try out the hotel's kitchen, either. The seafood and fish dishes are prepared in the Catalan style and are really tasty. If you're a meat lover, ask Michael for the meat of the day. He'll likely offer you a fantastic prime rib that's been cooked for 24 hours at a low temperature. As a long-time prime rib fan, I was blown away by this dish.
It was a long and dusty drive to get to the beach, only to find out that it was closed, despite the website and Google maps saying otherwise. We were met with a gruff attitude and when I asked politely for some water, I was shouted at in Catalan as the person walked away. While the beach may be great, I won't be in a hurry to go back. That said, the beach is easily accessible, so if you're willing to take the risk, it's worth a visit.
We absolutely adore this beach and have been coming back every year since our honeymoon in 2017! The atmosphere is perfect - the bar near the ocean plays great bossa nova music and has amazing cocktails. Plus, the gray sand with pebbles makes it even more special. We can't wait to come back this year!
A wonderful drive brings you to a beautiful hotel. The reasonable prices keep the clientele pleasant. The hotel is well-maintained and stunning, with ample rooms offering unbeatable sea views. The beds are comfortable and the bathroom is nice. The staff are professional and friendly. The exotic gardens, swimming pool, and easy-to-access pebble beach are breathtaking. Unfortunately, the restaurant was a major disappointment. Dinner was so bad we didn't want to stay for lunch the next day, although breakfast was quite enjoyable. The prices are high, but the quality and preparation need to be improved. It is a shame that an otherwise wonderful weekend was let down by the restaurant.
